(Bonus: This usually comes with a new title and some filthy lucre, too!)
The people have spoken: last year's list has grown ungainly, and so it's time for a new batch.
Same rules apply: If you hear of a move, tell me in the comments, and I'll post in the "Pending Confirmation" section. Escape from pending purgatory involves sending me a link or other documentation from the new institution. Fair enough?

I am excited to let you know that Dr. Christina Woo (currently at Stanford as a Jane Coffin Childs and Burroughs Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellow) will be joining CCB as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry! Dr. Woo will officially begin her appointment this summer, and will focus her research program broadly on Chemical Biology.
We are very lucky to have such an outstanding and dynamic scientist join the faculty, and I hope everyone will give Dr. Woo a warm welcome when they meet her in the coming months.

I've heard from 3 different sources that this is true (Richmond faculty, former advisor, close mutual friend).
DeleteOk, unless someone provides more detail, can we please dispense with the Phil Dawson to Nebraska nonsense, which is incidentally a carryover 'rumor' from last year?

ReplyDeleteGood catch!
DeleteAnyone know if Penn State has hired anyone? I know they were planning on giving an offer to one of the organic candidates they interviewed, but three of the four got jobs elsewhere. As an alumni, I'm really concerned with the future of the department.
ReplyDeletePSU has hired aggressively in the past four years, I think they are doing quite well despite the problems you are describing. Why are you concerned?
DeleteI would agree that the department as a whole is doing well, but the organic department is pretty bare. Weinreb, Funk, and Feldman are all wrapped up/wrapping up and are no longer taking students, while Chen is pretty much completely transferred to a school in China. The only 2 left (Phillips and Radosevich), are heavily rumored to want to leave, and I know at least one of them is actively seeking offers. They have given offers to at least 2 junior organic candidates (Kamil Godula and Ellen Sletten) and at least 1 senior organic candidate (Eric Anslyn) in the past few years, none of whom ending up coming

ReplyDeleteRadosevich is likely 99% leaving. He has at least 2 offers, one from MIT and one from a good state school.
DeleteSo that would leave one active organic professor. Who hasn't taken a new student in ~4 years. That's not healthy.
Deleteahh I see. Yes I agree with your comments. I wish the organic division best of luck!
DeleteAlexander T. Radosevich Officially to MIT from PSU! So pumped because he and his work are the bomb!

DeleteAlice Ting to Stanford?
ReplyDeleteLol. How many years has it been now that this has been in the works? Ever since I've been a grad student here people have been saying it. I can tell you that even her current grad students don't know when they're moving. Could be summer, could be December, could be next summer. Who knows.
